Membership Criteria
"Our approved members must favorably reflect the Guild's high standards by providing superior quality, ambience, guest service, amenities, and outstanding host integrity and hospitality."
The Guild's bylaws state that members are any person(s) who owns or operates a Bed & Breakfast and who meets the criteria for full membership. Therefore the innkeeper(s) is the member, not the establishment the innkeeper(s) operates. If a member B&B is sold, membership will terminate and any new owner will have to re-apply for membership.
Tourism BC Approval
All members of the British Columbia Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers Guild have their Bed & Breakfast approved by Tourism British Columbia. Find out how to apply, and what Tourism BC's requirements are here
Quality Assurance Program
All applicants must meet the Quality Assurance Program guidelines of the Guild. We believe these guidelines have set the standard for Bed & Breakfast accommodation in British Columbia. Please read the Quality Assurance Program form carefully and note that all items marked with a asterisk are essential, and the rest are strongly recommended.
Local License/Foodsafe/Insurance
If a Bed & Breakfast business license is required in your community or regional district, a copy must be faxed to the Guild, as part of your application process. A copy of the Foodsafe Certificate of the main person(s) doing the cooking is also required. Every applicant must have insurance coverage for liability and B&B operation, and a copy of that insurance policy must also be provided.
Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
Members of the British Columbia Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers Guild recognize the importance of, and strive to promote excellence in, not just our own Bed & Breakfast businesses, but the B&B segment of the hospitality industry. Members of BC Innkeepers agree to be bound by the following Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. On our membership application form, you will be asked to commit to these standards.
Breakfast Information
In order to ensure that guests' breakfast expectations are met, members of the Guild are required to post information on their website about the breakfast they provide, and the location where breakfast is served.
Your Commitment
All members of the Guild will be provided with the logo of the Guild, and you will be required to display that logo on your website's homepage or contact page, in close proximity to the logos of other associations, memberships or rating entities. We take pride in the quality of our member establishments, and if you would like to join this professional group of Bed & Breakfast innkeepers, we feel you must take pride in belonging to the Guild. On our membership application form, you will be prompted to commit to display the Guild's logo on your website, as long as you are a member of the Guild. We also recommend that you display the logo on any print material you may have.
